Today’s Highlights

Today some of the greatest names in sport will display their unique talents. Michael Phelps continues his hunt for immortality in the 100 meters butterfly. In the men’s athletics we have the hyped up 100 meter dash where Gay, Bolt and Powell will battle it out for Olympic glory and perhaps a world record. The fact is that tonight’s showdown in the men’s 100 meters is only one of many high points on today’s eventful schedule. The program serves up high profile finals in badminton and tennis as well as three final races in the track cycling events and of course much more…

In the swimming arena we will see Michael Phelps try to grab the gold in the 100 meters butterfly final. This event looks to be the toughest obstacle left on his quest to take the historic eight gold medals. Very much like the 100 meters freestyle, this discipline has plenty of strong contenders who are ready to make an assault on the world record. Phelps hectic schedule may be starting to take its toll on the super athlete. After all, he is human. Or is he? South African Jason Dunford and fellow countryman Ian Crocker are determined to find out.

The action in the “bird’s nest” continues as the track & field athletes get ready for the second day of competition. Today’s finals include, besides the 100 meters final, the women’s shot put and the men’s 20 km walk. Perhaps not the two most thrilling finals we will witness in the magnificent arena but they are sure to offer some excitement still. The female heptathletes will also complete their program today with the 800 m race. Carolina Klüft’s departure has left this event wide open.
